Disk Management, Linux/Unix Guide, Free Tools & More...

Get this in your inbox each week

Hello IT Pro,

What came across our desks this week? Some really great tools and a book you simply have to read. As always, we’re not affiliated with any of the brands mentioned below unless we state otherwise.

WizTree

Remember when your hard drive was all shiny and new and empty? It doesn’t stay that way for long, though. Let’s face it, there is just too much great software looking for a home out there. If you’re running an NTFS file system, WizTree is a tool that’ll make your life easier. It creates a list of the resource-hogging files and folders that are cluttering your drive, which saves you having to go through the drive manually and check the size of each file and folder. It draws the information from your NTFS Master File Table, so it takes just seconds.

Use a Barcode Scanner to Save You Time

There are plenty of mobile apps that allow you to scan items of inventory. So, next time you have to log in some IT hardware, use one! It’ll save you the tedious task of inputting everything manually and checking that there were no typos.

Essential System Administration

Sometimes the workings of Linux/Unix are mysterious. That’s why Essential System Administration is so useful. This book is aimed at sysadmins and goes over the fundamentals of running systems like Linux, AIX, and so on. It’s not just for beginners, though. More-advanced topics are covered in detail, and the updated edition covers the most-recent tech.

Iron Sysadmin Podcast

The Iron Sysadmin Podcast is designed for professional sysadmins. This podcast has built a good following since it was first published in 2016—thanks to  the practical information, industry news and tips it provides. Each episode contains interesting bits of information, so don’t miss the next one.

RBLmon

RBLmon is a free tool that helps you to deal with the blacklisting of your IP address. Simply register for a free account, and the system will do the rest. It scans the top real-time blacklists for your IP addresses on a regular basis. If your IP address is listed, it sends out an email notification to alert you, so you can deal with the issue as soon as possible.

That’s all for this week. Do you have any tips that you think our community would appreciate? Let us know in the comments.
